Whale Watching
Every year between July and October, humpback whales return to the Colombian Pacific waters to deliver their calfs. In their yearly visit through the region, they can be observed from land (only a few places in the world offer this incredible spectacle from the beach). They prefer quite places with low boat traffic, such as Pijibá Lodge. If you prefer a close encounter you can rent a boat to approach them.

Pijibá Lodge has been headquarters for scientific research of the Fundación Yubarta. This has given us plenty of experience in whale watching which makes the experience even more enjoyable, since many times we can approach the whales to just a few meters.

Sport Fishing

Pijibá Lodge provides its clients with marine sport fishing boat rides. For this purpose it counts with a 4-people boat which fullfills all the necessary requirements to practice this exciting sport. This boat has two 40HP engines and a cargo capacity of 2.5 tons. If some other boats, no matter the specifications, are needed for the same or other activities, they will be provided.

An expert guide and an experienced boat operator, both of them extremely familiar with navigation and fishing in this area, will take you to the best places for angling and/or trolling.

The Colombian Pacific coast has been recognized as one of the zones with the highest sport fishing potential in Colombia and even in the world. The abundant marine fish diversity is even noticeable from the beach.

Panoramic Tours

The visitors can choose from different activities. One of them is hiking through all the local tiny towns, visiting the thermal springs or a tour in the rain forest following one or more of the nearby crystal clear creeks. According to your preferences, you can visit some of the regional rivers such as Joví, Aruzí, Aruzizito, or visit the Coquí estuary, Boca Vieja beach, or the Berrugatera waterfall. In addition, many visitors can enjoy a relaxing ride on a sailing boat as a passenger; or if you prefer, taking a short course will allow you to navigate as a crew member. In May and June huge migrating sardine schools can be observed and during the second semester, visitors can enjoy the most spectacular humpback whale display.

Skin and Scuba Diving

Pijibá Lodge offers its clients skin and/or scuba diving tours, which include more than thirty different places to go with a wide range of depths and seascapes. This allows us to offer a different place to visit each time the divers ask for it. Due to the Humbolt current influence, this practically virgin zone offers an abundant marine fauna; from the microscopic luminescent plankton to the giant humpback whales, you will also find the most incredible diversity, hardly superable in any other place in the country. It is impressing, as well, the large soft coral variety in shape and color tipically found in the Pacific. Diving equipment for rent is available but the number is limited. Advance reservations must be placed for these equipment.

Beach Activities
Among many other things to do at the beach are surfing, body surfing and sea kayak.
